Screening and Selection Toolkit for Foster Parents
The relationship between foster parents and the children in their care can be deeply emotional and intimate. Thorough, scientifically-based screening can reduce placement disruptions and abuse. This Toolkit presents a state-of-the-art, four-phase foster parent screening and selection process. It includes all the materials you need to get the job done: an Applicant Readiness Self-Assessment, sample application, comprehensive psychosocial assessment, background questionnaire, templates for interviews with children and with adult children, and reference checking forms. It also identifies 10 applicant characteristics associated with successful foster parenting and a scoring system to evaluate applicants on each characteristic. It comes complete with an Interpretive Guidebook that includes more than 100 examples of high- and low-risk responses on applications, in the psychosocial assessment, in interviews, and on reference checks.
